San Marcos’ boys cross country team successfully qualified for the CIF’s Southern Section Championships by finishing fourth at Saturday’s CIF Prelims at Mt. SAC.
Eric Salas and Ryan Sorenson recorded top-10 individual races to lead the Royals to a 4th place finish out of 15 teams. Salas, in 7th, and Sorenson, in 8th, both broke 16 minutes.
Also scoring for the Royals were Nick Swider, Joe Logan, Eric Heuchert, Walker Odell and David Peterson. Six of the seven runners finished under 17 minutes.
At next Saturday’s CIF Finals, a top 7 result would earn the Royals a trip to the State Finals the on November 24th in Clovis.
The San Marcos girls team ended their season with an 8th place finish in their heat and did not advance to the finals. The team was led by Jewel Fisher who ran 19:47.
