Laguna Blanca made quick work of its first opponent in the CIF-ss Ford Championships, eliminating visiting Santa Clara 25 – 10, 25 – 16, 25 – 16 on Tuesday.
Chloe Richman got Laguna started right with an early five-point scoring run and the Owls never looked back. Richman finished with three aces in the match. Hannah White led the team in that department with four. Richman led the team in digs with 11.
Grace Woolf was Laguna’s kill leader with 11. Luisa Cameron’s five kills and 1.5 blocks caught the attention of her coach Jim Alzina, who said Cameron “was jumping out of the gym.”
The Owls advance in the Division 4-A playoff to face the winner of Gladstone and Redlands Adventist on Thursday.
Santa Clara finished third in the Frontier League this season while the Owls were co-Condor League champs.
