No. 1 Bishop Diego marches past South

After falling behind in the first quarter of Friday’s CIF Northwest Division playoff opener, Bishop Diego scored 23 unanswered on its way to a 43-9 victory at South Torrance.

The Cardinals (11-0) are the No. 1 seed in the division.

Justin Brosnan rushed for two first-half touchdowns and BJ Murillo returned an interception 50 yards to send the Cardinals into the halftime break with a 23-3 lead.

South had scored first on a 29-yard field goal by Nick Campbell.

South was also the first team to score in the second half when quarterback Kyle Nesbit ran it in from three yards out.

But Bishop responded again, scoring 20 straight to close out the playoff game.

Two touchdowns came through the air with Troy Skinner on the receiving end. Skinner caught a 22-yard TD from Gabe Molina and a 47-yarder from Anthony Carter.

Jacob Salcedo also found the endzone for the Cardinals, completing the scoring with a 27-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Nolan Tooley recorded three sacks for Bishop Diego’s defense, which limited South Torrance to 59 rushing yards.

  1. so now that Bishop is the last playoff football team in the city they will get some decent coverage from you right?

    • What are you talking about? The coverage has been great. In-game updates for many contest, video highlights/interviews. What do you want? There aren’t ESPN-like resources available.

    • In my opinion, the Bishop coverage has been fantastic. In-game updates, video highlights and interviews, etc… Not sure what else you’re looking for. Great job, Presidio.
