Westmont men’s basketball improved their record to 7-1 on Friday night with an 82-67 win over UC Merced (0-8). The Warriors rallied from a 12-point deficit in the first half to take a 44-36 halftime lead.
“We did a better job in the second half both offensively and defensively,” said Westmont head coach John Moore. “Our seniors played well. Jordan Sachs had a very nice all-around game. He and C.J. (Miller) had 20 points. Those two guys were the players of the game.
“Jordan played most of the second half and kept us very poised,” praised Moore. “Jordan’s execution has been tremendous. In games of late he has been very important in keeping us calm. C.J. only had two points at halftime because he was in foul trouble. So, he had a really important second half with 18 points.”
Senior guard Preston Branson added 14 points for the Warriors.
“Jason Ritchey played great,” added Moore. “It was kind of a homecoming for him. He had nine points, seven in the first half. He did a really nice job for us with offensive rebounds and put backs.”
After taking a break from competition for finals, the Warriors will resume play on Friday, December 14 when they host Bethesda in Murchison Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played on November 2 but because of a Flames’ scheduling conflict was rescheduled for two weeks from today.
