This Saturday, former Los Angeles Laker Mike Penberthy and former UCSB Gaucho and Santa Barbara Breaker Josh Merrill will face off in an exhibition basketball game at Westmont College as part of Providence Hall’s Challengeball event.
The public is welcome, with a $5 entry fee going to help support Lions athletic programs. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Murchison Gym.
Penberthy, who played for the Lakers NBA Championship team in 2000-01, will lead the “Past Prime Time Players.” The team will be coached by another former Laker, Don Ford.
Merrill, who starred at UCSB in the late 1990s, and current Providence Hall players will join together as the “Providence Hall All-Stars.”
Coaching for the PH All-Stars will be the head coach of Westmont’s women’s basketball program Kirsten Moore.
