Sophomore Michael Hansen tallied 17 points and six rebounds on Wednesday night, leading SBCC to an 82-71 men’s basketball victory at L.A. Valley.
Freshman guard Rico Failla added 13 points on 4-4 shooting from the 3-point line. He was 3-3 from downtown in the second half, when the Vaqueros (2-3) outscored the Monarchs 45-34 after a 37-all tie at halftime.
Santa Barbara outscored the home team 8-3 in the last four minutes.
Pablo Miranda had 12 points and six assists while sophomore forward Jalani Davis contributed nine points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
The Vaqueros shot a season-best 44 percent (29-66) from the field on the way to a season-high 82 points. They forced 20 turnovers while committing just 13.
“We played solid team defense and did a nice job of moving the ball around,” said coach Morris Hodges. “It was a good team effort and a good win on the road.”
The Vaqueros were playing their first game in 11 days. They held the Monarchs to 31.8 percent shooting and won the non-conference game despite being outrebounded 51-40. Valley grabbed 23 offensive rebounds.
SBCC faces another WSC South team on Saturday when it travels to Bakersfield for a 3 p.m. game.
