UCSB’s men’s basketball team is hosting the University of San Diego in a pre-Thanksgiving day matchup tomorrow night, just before the Gauchos join the traveling masses Thursday morning for a Saturday road game at Boise State.
The Gauchos take on the Toreros at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and won’t have long before they board a plane for Idaho Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m.
The Gauchos are off to a predictable 1-2 start after road losses at LSU and Illinois State followed by a victory over NAIA school The Master’s in the Thunderdome.
Alan Williams and Taran Brown have been leading the way for Santa Barbara in the first three games. Williams has recorded a double-double in his past two games and has scored in double figures in all three games. Red-shirt freshman Taran Brown managed just four points in the opener at LSU but has rebounded nicely with a 22-point performance at Illnois State and a 20-point, 13-rebound game vs. The Master’s.
Brown’s start is not to be overlooked.
The 6’8″ forward is the first freshman in?UCSB history to score 20 or more points in back-to-back games and is already the first freshman?since Chris Devine to score 20 or more more than once in a season.
Brown has put together stat lines in his past two games?of 22 points, six assists, three rebounds and 20 points, 13 rebounds, four assists.
Other things to look for on Wednesday is the possible season debut of Keegan Hornbuckle, who’s been sidelined with an ankle injury this season.
San Diego comes to the Thunderdome with a record of 3-2, having defeated San Diego Christian, Northern Kentucky and Siena. The two losses came from Tulsa and Cal State Northridge.
The Toreros have three starters averaging in double figures this season, led by sophomore Johnny Dee’s 16.5 ppg.
Saturday’s game with Boise State is scheduled for 1 p.m. PSD.
