The Dos Pueblos boys placed five runners in the top eight and rolled to their first Channel League cross country title since 2005 on Thursday at Camino Real Park in Ventura.
Bryan Fernandez and Addi Zerrenner capped their regular seasons by winning their respective races at the final Channel League cross country meet.
Fernandez ran the flat three-mile course in 14:37, the second fastest time ever run on the course, and Dos Pueblos teammates Max Davis (15:01), John Greening (15:16), Andrew McGuan (15:20) and Cole Smith (15:27) finished second, third, fifth and sixth, respectively, to give the Chargers 17 points. Ben York came in eighth (15:39), putting six of the seven Charger runners in the top 10.
Buena was second with 68 points followed by San Marcos (69), Ventura (86) and Santa Barbara (119)
DP’s Zerrenner ran 17:36 to defend her league title and teammate Elaine McClure came in second in the girls race in 17:59. The Chargers finished third behind defending champion Ventura and Buena in the team standings. San Marcos and Santa Barbara finished fourth and fifth.
Jewel Fisher of San Marcos finished seventh in 18:56, Santa Barbara’s Bailey Wolf was eighth in 18:58 and Kaitlyn Kuehn of San Marcos came in ninth in 19:01.
On the boys side, Ryan Sorenson of San Marcos placed seventh in 15:34 and Ryan Scheuerman of Santa Barbara tied for 10th in 15:49.
