Dos Pueblos’ first day at the Cats & Hounds Tournament in Lompoc started with an 8-1 victory over Mission Prep an ended on a penalty-kick shoot-out loss to Arroyo Grande.
Omar Montalvo and Nathan Garcia scored two goals each against Mission Prep. Montalvo has totaled three goals in two games to start the season and added two assists on Friday. Garcia was playing his first varsity game. The sophomore call-up also had an assist.
Despite the 5-4 loss on penalty kicks to AG, Chargers head coach Matt York walked away feeling good about his team’s defensive effort.
Tucker Snider led the defense that allowed just one shot on goal all game. In the midfield, Noah Zimmerman and Julio Rubio excelled.
York had this to say about Zimmerman: “His rugged determination and effort was willing our team to stay in the game and giving us chances to win.”
The Chargers play again at 10 a.m. on Saturday to start the final day of the tournament.
