Carpinteria’s girls tennis team is back in the CIF-ss Ford Championship semifinals.
One year after reaching the title match, the Warriors have returned to the Final Four in Division 6 by defeating Chino Hills 13-5 in Monday’s quarterfinals.
“We had strong performances from a few of our usual suspects but also clutch play from a few doubles teams,” reported Warriors head coach Charles Bryant.
Carpinteria was able to jump out to a 5-1 lead after the first round.
A come-from-behind 7-5 win from Merissa Souza and Cat Maldonado was key to giving the Warriors a big early edge.
Down 3-4, Gabi Montes De Oca and Natalie Saito also came from behind to win their opening set 6-4.
At the top of the Warriors’ lineup, Kelsie Bryant was 2-0 and Erin Saito/Lesly Zapata swept 3-0.
The semifinal match for the Warriors (22-1) is Wednesday at Arlington High School in Riverside.
