Carpinteria’s girls tennis team suffered its first loss in the final regular season match of the season on Thursday.
The Warriors dropped an 11-7 non-league decision to Orcutt Academy, the No. 2-ranked team in CIF Division 4.
“This was a great match to play right before CIF, and hopefully it was a wake-up call that we will need to work harder if we want to reach our goals,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said.
Carpinteria will go into the CIF playoffs with a 19-1 record.
Orcutt Academy picked up seven points in doubles to key its win.
“All three of their teams were tough as we continually fell behind early and often, and were just not able to mount comebacks,” said Bryant.
Erin Saito-Lesly Zapata got a pair of set victories for the Warriors.
In singles, Kelsie Bryant continued her shutout streak as she won all
three of her sets 6-0. She has not lost a game in 28 straight
sets. Tess Pitzer won two out of three sets.
“As much as we are a little bummed about the loss, I think our team, especially the doubles, took something positive out of it,” Bryant said.
