Warriors eliminated from GSAC contention

Sean Siemens gave Westmont Men’s Soccer (5-8-1, 2-6-1 GSAC) an early lead when he scored in the third minute of play, but Westmont couldn’t make the lead stand up, falling 2-1 to Hope International (10-6-1, 4-4-1) in a Golden State Athletic Conference game. As a result, the Warriors have been eliminated from post season play.

The Warriors scored when Daniel Johnsen made a long throw in to the middle of the field, 15 yards from the corner flag. Marcos Lopez headed it toward the goal where the ball found Siemens who headed it into the net.

Westmont kept a 1-0 lead until the fifty-fourth minute when Hope International’s Edgar Bran headed in a corner kick from Matthew Howard. Twenty-six minutes later, Zach Hoffer scored the winning goal unassistsed.

The Warriors were outshot in the game 19-5 and faced a 13-4 corner kick advantage by the Royals. Westmont goalkeeper Matthew McNab recorded six saves in the contest.

Westmont will wrap up the season on Saturday in Costa Mesa where they will take on Vanguard in a six o’clock game.
