The Frontier League’s Girls Tennis Individual Tournament is underway, with the preliminary rounds being held on Tuesday at Villanova.
Carpinteria’s undefeated Warriors had two singles players and two doubles teams make Thursday’s semifinals. Bishop Diego’s Meredith Amspoker also made Thursday’s semifinals in singles.
Carpinteria’s top-seeded Kelsie Bryant and Kassandra Ni received first round byes before easily winning second round matches.
The Warriors’ top two doubles teams, seeded No. 1 and No. 3, both won in straight sets. The top-seeded duo of Lesly Zapata and Erin Saito fell behind in their first set 2-5 but rallied for a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
The tournament will resume on Thursday for the semifinals and finals. The finalists in both singles and doubles will qualify for the CIF Individual Tournament to be held on November 19.
Bishop Diego’s Emilee Krablin won a first-round match before falling to Bryant in the second round.
Amspoker overcame Nikki Neumann 3-6,6-4,7-5 in their quarterfinal match.
