SBCC opened October the way it finished September on Wednesday night with another women’s volleyball sweep. The 21st-ranked Vaqueros downed Cuesta 25-20, 25-20, 25-13 in a WSC North match at San Luis Obispo.
Bianca Castro and Jasmine Ward scored 11 points each as the Vaqueros won their fifth straight to improve to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in conference. Cuesta is 2-10 and 0-1.
Castro had seven kills and four blocks while Ward collected eight kills, one block and two aces. Freshman setter Ari Garner had another solid match with two kills, three blocks, an ace and 24 assists.
“Bianca and Ari did a great job of blocking their best outside hitter twice during a key stretch in Game 2,” said coach Ed Gover. “Erika Bellitt had a five-point serving run in Game 3 that gave us the lead.”
Mackenzie Mexico and Emily Banas racked up 10 digs apiece.
“We’re growing as a unit and getting closer as a team,” Gover added. “This is a tight group that’s believing in themselves.”
SBCC travels to L.A. Mission on Friday at 7 p.m.
