Carpinteria’s girls tennis played one of its best matches of the year and beat crosstown rival Cate 15-3 on Friday.
The victory raised the Warriors’ record to 17-0.
Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said Cate was missing its No. 1 singles player due to an illness, but the match was still competitive despite the one-sided score.
Bryant singled out the play of his No. 3 doubles team, Natalie Saito and Gabi Montes De Oca.
“They played their hearts out,” he said. “They were moving well around the court and communicating like a seasoned team. They were amazing to watch.”
The No. 1 doubles team of Erin Saito/Lesly Zapata lost the first two games of the day but regrouped and did not drop another game all day.
At No. 2 doubles, Merissa Souza/Emily Saito rallied for an 0-3 deficit in the first set and won 6-3 en route to a 2-1 day.
In singles, Kelsie Bryant went 3-0 and did not drop a game.
