RIVERSIDE – On Friday night, UCSB scored a season-high four goals in a win at Cal State Fullerton. On Sunday the Gauchos struggled to finish and UC Riverside scored a goal in just the third minute of play and then held on to win, 1-0.
The Highlanders scored their goal at the 2:05 mark when Andrea Morales received a free kick from Andreal Luttio and headed it home, past UCSB goalkeeper Makenna Henry, for the only goal of the match.
The score by Morales was one of just two shots on goal by Riverside. The Gauchos outshot the Highlanders 13-5 and had four shots on frame to their opponents two, but it wasn’t enough. UCR goalkeeper Jessica White had saves on all four of Santa Barbara’s shots to help her team to victory.
In Sunday’s defeat, UCSB was led by senior Dyanne Anderson and sophomore Indiana Mead who each had a pair of shots on goal.
The Gauchos, who have been eliminated from the possibility of taking part in the Big West Tournament, will complete their season on Sunday, Oct. 28 with a 1:00 p.m. match at first-place Cal Poly.
