Charlotte Skjonsby shot 83 for the second consecutive day on Monday and SBCC placed 12th in the prestigious North-South Invitational women’s golf tournament at Morro Bay GC.
Canyons turned in a 308 to edge WSC rival Glendale by a stroke for the overall title, 622-623. Sacramento City was third at 631. Santa Barbara improved its first-round score by five shots with a 355 and a 36-hole total of 715.
Five teams in the tourney have claimed 10 of the last 12 state championships, including SBCC (2006 and 2008 champs). Pattraporn Silawanna of Glendale shot a 5-over 149 and beat Kristin Grimes of Canyons in a playoff for the individual title.
Megan Herrera lowered her score by six strokes with an 85 for the Vaqueros and Jackie Ramirez shot 88.
“We showed a little bit of improvement,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We’re gaining experience every tournament and our attitude is great. We’re going to keep pushing ourselves to get better.”
The Vaqueros will compete in WSC No. 5 on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Simi Hills GC.
