Jordan Lund and Renee Handley rolled through their three sets, while Julia Frohling and Kinsley Shinn picked up important wins in singles to help San Marcos defeat Dos Pueblos 11-7 in a Channel League girls tennis match on Thursday.
The win gives San Marcos a 4-1 record in league and clinches a CIF playoff spot. The Royals are 8-6 overall. Dos Pueblos falls to 2-3 in league.
Lund had a perfect day while Handley dropped just one game.
But it was the wins by Frohling and Shinn at No. 3 singles that gave the Royals? Alex Sheldon reason to smile at the end of the day.
?Julia really played well today. ?She was in control of the entire set and finished off numerous solid points,? said Sheldon
?I’m really proud of Kinsley stepping up and getting a win,? he continued. ?We needed to get some points from the number three singles spot and getting a win from her and Julia was a big boost.?Kinsley played her best tennis of the year today.?
San Marcos? No. 1 doubles team of Alexis Flores and Amber Rowley went 3-0.
For Dos Pueblos, the teams of Chloe Scott-K.C. Egger and Varsha Manjunath-Kishika Singh each won a pair of sets.
?Winning a cross town rivalry game is so exciting,? Sheldon said. ?Dos Pueblos is a quality team, our biggest rival. ?Beating them twice was a team goal of ours going back to August and our team has worked really hard to achieve this.?
