San Marcos snapped its two-match losing streak by beating Buena in four sets Thursday night in a Channel League match.
The 25-22, 25-23, 16-25, 25-20 victory evened the Royals’ league record at 2-2.
Playing its second match without UCSB commit Kristen Berlo (sprained ankle), the Royals got good production from Emily Allen and Carly Yarnell at the net. Allen had 12 kills and hit .280 and Yarnell added 11 kills with a .320 hitting average.
Coach Erica Downing said the team worked in practice on individuals stepping up and contributing to the team effort. “They made the right adjustments,” she said.
Defense played a big part in the win over Buena. In a match that had several long rallies, Anika Wilson and Allen were credited with 30 digs apiece.
San Marcos (7-2) begins the second round of league next Thursday at Dos Pueblos.
