Cate’s girls volleyball team upended Laguna Blanca on Wednesday 25-21, 24-26, 19-25, 25-23, 15-10 in a Condor League match.
The stunning result was the Owls’ first league loss this season. Cate is now 5-1 with a shot of sharing its first league title in some time.
Cydney Pierce’s 23 kills powered Cate, which also got 12 kills from freshman Peyton Shelburne.
Lydia McMahon’s six aces led a serving effort from Cate that saw the Rams err on just four serves on 107 attempts.
“The team was excited to win — but from the bench, I was super stoked watching them play some great volleyball,” explained Cate head coach Greg Novak. “Win or lose that 5th set, I was impressed with the play in the entire match.”
Cate plays again on Saturday vs. Providence Hall.
