Saralisa Ortega, a 12-time match medalist this season for Santa Barbara High’s girls golf team, claimed the Channel League’s individual title by firing a final-round 79 at the league championships on Wednesday at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai.
Ortega overcame a four-shot deficit after last Wednesday’s first round and finished with a total of 167. First-round leader Melissa Marshall finished second with a 170; Bekah Beveridge of Dos Pueblos took third 172 and Ventura’s Glenda Marshall and Claudia Fanaro of Santa Barbara tied for fourth at 174.
Marshall beat Fanaro on the third playoff hole to claim the league’s final qualifying spot for next week’s CIF-SS Northern Regional tournament at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard.
Fanaro and sixth-place finisher Mariya Ramirez of DP will serve as the alternates for the next round.
