Cate’s 8-man football team dominated the first half of play in Saturday’s game with Orcutt Academy and came out on the other end with a 48-12 victory.
The Rams (4-1) led 34-0 at halftime thanks to three throwing touchdowns and a pair of ling runs.
“We played well. It’s their first in 8-man but they had a good-sized squad,” said Rams head coach Ben Soto.
Cate’s senior quarterback Kyle Mayfield connected with Max Wankner, Austin Gallegos and Max Vasquez on separate touchdown throws and added a 68-yard run for four first-half touchdowns.
Vasquez finished the first half with a pair of touchdowns by adding a 36-yard scoring run in the first quarter.
Mayfield and Gallegos went on to hook up once more in the second half for a 34-yard touchdown completion.
“We did a good job of running the ball outside and passing the ball when we needed to,” Soto said.
The Rams move on to their biggest game of the season against Thacher.
