In a charged atmosphere at Laguna Blanca’s gym, the Owls pulled out a 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 sweep over Cate in a battle of Condor League unbeaten girls volleyball teams.
“There was a great atmosphere in the gym today, and I wish more games were like this,” said Laguna Blanca coach Jim Alzina.
Cate gave Laguna all it could handle early in the match, digging up several Owl attacks.
“Cate played really good defense tonight and Greg (Novak), their coach, has done a really good job with his team.”
Said Novak: “In game one, we did battle against them. We had the lead a few times, but we got stuck in a bad rotation at 15 points.”
Hannah White and Grace Woolf paced Laguna Blanca’s attack with 10 and eight kills, respectively. Chloe Richman had 15 digs and Clara Madsen “set a really good match and distributed the ball evenly,” said Alzina.
For Cate, Cydney Pierce led the way with eight kills, while Peyton Shelburne added four. Sumner Matthews turned in a solid match at libero.
“We just got to play like we did early in game one in order to beat Laguna,” said Novak.
Laguna Blanca is 4-0 in league while Cate falls to 2-1.
