Chijioke Aranotu tied the game 2-2 with a goal in the 74th minute on Friday night but L.A. Mission responded with a score in the 78th minute to beat SBCC 3-2 in a WSC men’s soccer match at La Playa Stadium.
It was the second goal of the game for Aranotu, who fired in a header off a corner from Jamie Sporcic with a minute remaining in the first half to tie it at 1-1. Mission regained the lead in the 51st minute.
Adam Colton’s free kick set up Aranotu’s second tally.
The Vaqueros (8-6-3, 6-4-3) could have moved into second place in the WSC with a victory but the Eagles (9-5-3, 8-3-1) improved their position behind first-place Oxnard.
“We played brilliantly for the first 10 minutes,” said coach John Sisterson. “After that, it was really a disappointing performance. Maybe it might have been frustration after we couldn’t put the ball in the net. We just weren‘t firing on all cylinders.”
