Freshman forward Brandie Harris scored from close range in the 29th minute on Tuesday night and SBCC went on to tie Oxnard 1-1 in a WSC North women’s soccer game at La Playa Stadium.
Megan Williams gave the Condors a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Six minutes later, Heather Rivera delivered a through ball to Harris and the former Dos Pueblos High star booted it into the top right shelf.
“Heather played a through ball and I ran wide, I spun in and shot it,“ said Harris, who leads the team with nine goals. “They definitely outplayed us in the first 20 minutes and toward the end. It was kind of embarrassing.”
The Vaqueros outshot the visitors 14-8 and each team had five shots on goal.
SBCC keeper Brianna Robinson saved the tie by making a diving save in the 84th minute.
“This was a game we could have won,” said coach John Sisterson. “We were out-worked and out-battled in every area of the field. We didn’t show enough passion.”
The Vaqueros continue their five-game homestand on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game against Moorpark.
