Bryan Fernandez and the Dos Pueblos boys cross country team continued their winning ways at the Channel League No. 2 meet at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura on Thursday.
Fernandez remained undefeated on the season, winning the hilly 3-mile race in 15 minutes, 47 seconds. Max Davis came in third in 16:13, Andrew McGuan was fourth in 16:38, Ben York placed fifth in 16:42 and Cole Smith nabbed seventh in 16:49. As a team, the Chargers scored 20 points to far outdistance second-place Ventura with 62.
San Marcos finished third followed by Santa Barbara and Buena.
Dos Pueblos has won both league meets and appears to be headed to its first league title since 2005.
Santa Barbara High’s best finishers in the race were James Schuermann (16:51, 8th place), Bradley Apodaca (17:21, 15th) and Eric Woods (17:23, 19th)
In the girls meet, DP’s Addi Zerrenner won the individual title in 18:55, but the Chargers finished second to Ventura, 25-57. Buena beat out San Marcos for third and Santa Barbara was fifth.
Elaine McClure finished in third place in 19:44. The other DP finishers were Tatianna Schluep (21:12, 12th), Racquel Fygenson (21:29, 18th) and KK Amble (22:28, 23rd).
Santa Barbara’s top finishers were Miranda Bartell in 10th in 20:57 and Bell Demachkie in 17th place in 21:26.
Ryan Sorensen of San Marcos was his team’s top finisher, coming in sixth (16:46), while teammate Nicholas Swider was 16th (17:21).
Juliana Logan (ninth, 20:54) led the San Marcos girls with a ninth-place finish (20:54), and teammate Jewel Fisher came in 13th (21:16).
On Saturday, DP hoss the Lagoon Meet at UCSB. The girls race starts at 9 a.m. and the boys follow at around 9:30.
