Tessa Dewell’s career-high 17-kill performance lifted Santa Barbara High’s girls volleyball team to a 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 27-25 Channel League victory over Buena on the Dons’ Senior Night.
Senior Frankie Lewis added 12 kills to the Dons’ attack. Dewell’s previous career high was 12.
“(Tessa’s) really kind of hitting her stride,” said Dons head coach John Gannon.
Another high note for the Dons came from Caroline Anderson and Jessyca Eeksa. The two middles recorded seven kills each, totaling the most for the Dons this season from that position.
The Dons needed the contributions after falling a set down.
“Buena really wasn’t giving us anything easy,” Gannon said.
The Dons seniors honored before the match were Lewis, Emma Mascari, Carly Stoll, Sarah Scarminach, Sydney Riegert and Michaela Ford.
Santa Barbara’s next match is a first-place showdown with San Marcos on Thursday. Both teams hold 4-2 Channel League records and are joining forces for Thursday’s match to raise money for breast cancer.
