Cate’s victory clinches share of Condor title

Cate’s 25-14, 27-25, 25-17 victory over Thacher on Wednesday afternoon ensured the Rams a share of the Condor League title.

It’s Cate’s first league title in girls volleyball since 2002.

“The girls are pretty stoked,” said Cate head coach Greg Novak.

The Rams share the league title with Laguna Blanca but will enter the postseason as the league’s No. 2 seed after losing an early coin flip.

Novak credited his middles Xandrine Griffin and Tamsyn Walker with doing plenty of damage on the Toads. Griffin hit .500 and recorded four kills. Walker hit .300 with eight kills.

Peyton Shelburne matched Walker’s team-high eight kills.

Cate was able to sweep Thacher after the two teams needed five sets to decide their first meeting.

“Every practice the team seems to get a little better,” Novak explained, saying the team was as healthy now as it has been all season.

Wednesday’s victory featured a comeback in Game 2 that saw Cate erase a 21-10 deficit to win.

“We pulled that one out of a hat,” Novak said.
