Cate’s No. 3 ranked 8-man team dominated No. 5 Coast Union in Friday night’s 62-15 Condor League decision that virtually assured the Rams a league title.
Kyle Mayfield rushed for three touchdowns in the first half before finding Max Wankner for a 43-yard touchdown throw in the third quarter. Max Vasquez and Austin Gallegos each found the endzone in the first half and again in the second half.
Cate’s six rushing touchdowns in the first half were all from 8 yards out or less.
“We played a great first half on both sides of the ball,” reported Rams head coach Ben Soto. “The 41-7 lead going into half took their big homecoming crowd out of the game.”
It’s Cate’s third victory against a top-10 team this season. The Rams’ only loss was to Division 2 No. 1 Joshua Springs. Cate (6-1, 3-0) can win its league title outright next week at home against Dunn.
