Bishop Diego notched its first Tri-Valley League girls volleyball win Thursday, rallying past Malibu on the road in five sets. The scores were 17-26,19-25,25-21,28-26,15-13
“We have been working hard all season on finishing sets off and tonight we did just that,” assistant coach John Sener said.
The Cardinals got a gutsy effort from Lauren Underwood, Talia Van Wingerden and Emily Lash, Sener noted. Underwood had 10 kills and eight digs and Van Wingerden added seven kills. Josie McCoy was big on defense, picking up nine digs and setter Greta Rennacker dished out 28 assists.
“All the girls stepped up big time in the last three sets. Our primary passers Maddison Ballard and Erin Linehan would not let the ball drop in the fifth set and that made the difference in securing the victory,” said Sener.
