FULLERTON – Erica Cano and Stacey Yam each advanced to the “B” Flight semifinals at the Cal State Fullerton Fall Intercollegiates, but April Scatliffe and Priscilla Garcia were both knocked out of the “A” Flight quarterfinals on Saturday. The doubes tandem of Cano and Yam also advanced to Sunday’s “B” final.
After winning two matches Friday to advance to the “B” quarters, Yam knocked off Cal State Northridge’s Jessica Warren, 6-3, 6-3 to move on. Cano topped Kalika Stevecove 6-3, 2-0 (ret.). Cano was knocked out of the main draw in the semis by Long Beach State’s Karolina Rozenburg, 6-1, 6-0. The result of Yam’s semifinal match against Sarah Gong of UC Irvine was not available as of late Saturday.
Scatliffe, who defeated players from UC Irvine and Long Beach State on Friday, lost to Leora Hammerich of Cal State Los Angeles in her quarterfinal match on Saturday, 6-3, 6-4. Garcia, a freshman from Brazil, was swept by Tory Parravi of Loyola Marymount in her Saturday match-up, 6-0, 6-0.
Yam and Cano also experienced success in double on Saturday. Te duo won its on Friday to move into the semifinals of the “B” Flight. On Saturday, they outlasted Parravi and Claudia Razzet of Loyola Marymount, 9-8 (7-5) to advance into a Sunday final against Mamit and Stadfelt of UC Irvine.
