Westmont’s Ciara Turner has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. In four matches last week, the junior middle blocker posted an attack percentage of .479, pounding down 43 kills on 71 attempts while committing just nine errors.
Westmont (15-1, 1-0 GSAC) posted four road wins last week, including one on Tuesday at California Lutheran which is ranked number six in Division III of the NCAA. In the NAIA national poll released today, Westmont moved up from number eight to number five – the highest the Warriors have been ranked since the August 15, 2000 Preseason NAIA poll.
After 16 matches, Turner ranks sixth in the NAIA and fourth in the Golden State Athletic Conference in season attack percentage at .406, having tallied 147 kills on 276 attempts with 35 errors.
Turner and the rest of the Warrior squad will bring an 11-game winning streak into tonight’s match against second-ranked Concordia (14-0, 1-0) in what promises to be a well-fought battle between two of the NAIA’s best teams. The action gets underway at seven o’clock in Murchison Gymnasium.
