The Westmont cross country teams put up an impressive performance at the Mustang Challenge in Newhall. The women’s team took first place, scoring 39 points to beat out the hosts, The Master’s, which finished in second with 50 points. The men’s team finished second in the field of nine, scoring 69 points to The Master’s 30.
In the women’s 5,000 meter race, seven Warriors finished in the top 13 places. Freshman Jessica Meyers claimed fifth place with a time of 18:29 while Danica Rosendale took sixth in a time of 18:26. Amber Collier placed eighth in 18:42 and Alexandria Adams was ninth in 18:45.
Corinne Cherne, Piper Bain and Jordan McCall finished eleventh through thirteenth in that order, with times of 19:00, 19:03 and 19:06.
Third place in the women’s race went to Loyola Marymount with 71 points. La Verne edged out Vanguard for fourth place, scoring 103 points to the Lions’ 105. Fresno Pacific claimed sixth with 145 points. Arizona Christian took seventh with 171 points and San Diego Christian was eighth with 225 points.
The Master’s Hannah Kellerman was the women’s winner, finishing the course in a time of 17:45.
Evan Bradford and Matt Day were the top two Westmont finishers in the men’s 8.000 meters. Bradford finished third with a time of 26:17 and Day finished less than a half second later to take fourth. Jake Jeanson claimed 15th place for Westmont in a time of 25:52 and Daniel Erickson was 18th in a time of 27:03. Completing the scoring for the Warriors was Evan Kramer who took 13th place in a time of 27:32.83.
La Verne finished in third place in the men’s race with 95 points, edging out Arizona Christian who finished fourth with 99 points. Vanguard was the fifth place team with 113 points, just ahead of Loyola Marymount with 119 points.
Canyons took seventh place with 194 points and Fresno Pacific claimed eighth with 207 points. San Diego Christian finished ninth with 286 points.
John Gilbertson of The Master’s won the men’s race in a time of 25:06.
Next Saturday, Westmont will take part in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
