Westmont men’s and women’s tennis performed well at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships held at Biola. The Warriors claimed the doubles championship in both the men’s and women’s tournaments.
On the women’s side, Nicci Yvanovich and Tara Yekrang defeated Lewis-Clark State’s Dorothy Chong and Livia Blqsque 8-5 in the championship match. The duo reached the finals with an 8-2 semifinal win over Kristian Lampe and Caitlin Uzzi of Concordia. Also competing in the semifinals were Westmont’s Jessica Cedillo and Grace Davis who fell to Chong and Blqsque 8-3.
Tim Goranson and John Bertram claimed the men’s doubles championship with an 8-5 win over Bruno Kliskinic and Christian Wickenhausen of Concordia 8-5. Gorenson and Bertram reached the finals by defeating Ian Glessing and Tyler Cawthorne of Arizona Christian 8-3. Kliskinic and Wickenhausen earned a spot in the finals by sneaking by Westmont’s Joshua Barnard and Nicholas Szyndlar 8-6.
Yvanovich and Tekrang along with Goranson and Bertram will represent the Western Region in the NAIA division of the USTA/ITA Small College Championships in Mobile, Alabama. The event is scheduled to be held October 11-14.
