Paul Cortez found the endzone three times on Friday night for Carpinteria’s football team, helping the Warriors to a 29-6 non-league win at Santa Clara.
Cortez scored on two 5-yard rushes and added a 52-yard punt return in the second half. The Warriors built a 29-0 lead before the Saints scored in the final minute of the fourth quarter.
The Warriors have now won three in a row – all road games – after beginning the season with an 0-2 record.
“We wanted to be road Warriors and come out of this 3-0,” said Carpinteria head coach Ben Hallock about the three consecutive road contests.
Carpinteria benefitted from three interceptions and eight sacks from its defense.
“The sacks and interceptions got us out of some tight situations,” Hallock explained.
Carpinteria’s other touchdown came on a 25-yard pass play between quarterback Ian Craddock and receiver Ruben Garcia in the third quarter.
Cortez totaled 41 yards on 7 carries.
