Sophomore Emily Banas had 15 points and 15 digs in two matches on Friday but SBCC came up short to a pair of top-10 teams in the state at the El Camino Quad women’s volleyball event.
The 19th-ranked Vaqueros (2-2) were swept by No. 3 El Camino (25-11, 25-16, 26-24) and No. 8 Pasadena (25-19, 25-22, 25-17).
Jasmine Ward and Bianca Castro contributed 13 points each. Ari Garner and Jenna Anderson did a fine job of setting as the Vaqueros experimented with a one-setter and two-setter offenses.
“We made some freshmen mistakes but there were a lot of bright spots, topped by the play of Emily and Bianca,“ said coach Ed Gover. “We tried some different people at libero and we alternated between a 5-1 and 6-2 offense.
“We’re discovering who we are.”
On Sept. 15, the Vaqueros will take on Fullerton (10 a.m.) and Golden West (1 p.m.) at the Fullerton Quad.
