SBCC gave up an own goal on a free kick in the 17th minute Tuesday night and Hancock went on to secure a 1-0 victory in the WSC men’s soccer opener for both schools at Santa Maria High.
It’s the first time the defending WSC champion Vaqueros (2-3, 0-1) have been shut out this year. Hancock improved to 2-2-1 and 1-0.
Ismael Guzman made nine saves in goal for SBCC.
SBCC will play a “home game” at Ventura College on Friday when the Vaqueros take on College of the Canyons at 7 p.m.
