SBCC will take its fast-paced offensive attack on the road for the first two games ot the American Pacific Conference football season.
The Vaqueros (1-2) open on Saturday at Los Angeles Valley in a 6 p.m. game. SBCC is coming off a resounding 41-7 win over Compton. Freshman quarterback Jarred Evans threw for three touchdowns and Jake Umphreyville added two.
The Monarchs are 0-3 and have allowed 40 or more points in each game. They lost to Mt. San Jacinto 42-22 last week after leading 22-8 at the half.
Vaquero linebacker Morgan Nevin, a 6-foot freshman from Truckee, Calif., leads all Southern Cal tacklers with 37 (12.3 per game), including 13 solo.
Evans has completed 43 of 73 passes (59 percent) for 544 yards. His eight TD passes rank No. 2 in Southern Cal. Anthony Pullman has been Evans’ favorite target with 17 catches for 122 yards and two TDs. Steven Jerome is averaging 21.6 yards on 11 catches with two TDs.
Tight end Tyson Heller has eight catches and he’s grabbed a touchdown in each of the first three games. Jeff Walton has rushed for nearly 200 yards the last two weeks, going for 99 in the second half at East L.A. and 98 last week.
Valley leads the series with SBCC 13-6-1.
On Sept. 29, Santa Barbara travels to L.A. Southwest.
