Justin Saul gave SBCC an early lead in near 100-degree heat on Tuesday at Taft but the Cougars stormed back to post a 3-1 men’s soccer victory.
Chijioke Aranotu drove into the penalty area and was pulled down in the sixth minute. Saul converted a penalty kick to put the Vaqueros (1-2) ahead 1-0.
Taft scored in the 17th and 43rd minutes to assume a 2-1 halftime advantage.
“We started off well in the first 15 minutes, then we seemed to back off and lost our way,” said SBCC coach John Sisterson.
Midfielder Daniel Loveday received a second yellow card in the 50th minute and was ejected. The Vaqueros, playing with 10 men, gave up another goal in the 78th minute.
SBCC will play host to Chaffey on Friday at 7 p.m.
