Royals score lowest round in over five years

San Marcos’ girls golf team used a season-low round to knock off Ventura at Buenaventura Golf Course 225-237 on Thursday.

Melissa Jewkes medaled in the match with a 42. All five Royals golfers carded rounds below 50, including Brittany Peretiako at 43 and Kelsey Gellert at 45.

It was not only the first time this season all five Royals scored under 50, but also the lowest round of golf the San Marcos program had scored in over five years according to the coaching staff.

Glenda Marshall led Ventura with a 43.

“Each one of our girls deserves recognition as it was truly a team effort,” said Royals assistant coach Recine Amato, “It was great to see the camaraderie we had today as a team; the girls really came together and were pulling for each other.”

San Marcos (5-4, 1-1) faces Santa Barbara next Thursday. Ventura falls to 4-2, 1-2.
