Behind the running of A.J. Oto and Paul Vasquez, the Channel Islands High football team ran wild against San Marcos on Friday night.
Oto scored two touchdowns and rushed for 182 yards, and Vasquez had 70 yards on two carries as the Raiders blanked the Royals 28-0.
The Raiders (2-2) jumped to a quick 7-0 lead on a 73-yard run by Oto on the first play from scrimmage. Edel Hernandez kicked the first of four PATS.
In the second quarter, Vasquez added to the scoring show with a 68-yard run. Oto would score his second TD with a 65-yard dash to make 21-0 with 3:27 left in the first half.
Channel Islands had 293 yards rushing in the first half against San Marcos (1-3). The Royals were coming off their first win last week 40-20 over Hueneme, but they couldn’t stop the offensive surge of the Raiders.
Channel Islands’ David Anderson had a 56-yard interception return in the fourth quarter with 3:41 remaining to cap the scoring.
San Marcos was held to 59 passing yards and 185 yards rushing on 42 carries. Esteban Alfaro rushed for 85 yards on 21 carries,
San Marcos returns to action next Friday by hosting Tri-Valley League power Nordhoff.
