Former UCSB basketball player Greg Somogyi has been signed to a training-camp contract by the Los Angeles Lakers along with former UCLA Bruin Reeves Nelson, it was announced Wednesday.
Somogyi, a Hungarian national, stands 7’3″ tall and played for the Lakers’ summer league team this year in Las Vegas where he averaged 1.2 points, 1.6 rebounds in five games.
Nelson also played with the Lakers’ Summer League team.
Neither players’ contract is guaranteed for the regular season.
Somogyi spent four years at UCSB where he posted career averages of 3.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 12.2 minutes.
Nelson, a 6-8 forward out of UCLA, was named to the All-PAC 10 first team following his sophomore year, Nelson played in 68 games for the Bruins averaging 12.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 27.0 minutes.
The highly regarded prospect out of high school, once considered a possible NBA lottery pick, saw his stock fall following his dismissal from the UCLA program in December of 2011.
