Megan Jurado scored two goals and an assist to lift visiting No. 17 San Diego State to a 3-1 win over UCSB on Sunday afternoon.
SDSU (9-1-1) took a 1-0 lead over UCSB (3-6-1) at 27:47 when Jurado took a feed right-to-left through the box from Jensen Skinner. Jurado settled the ball, did some fancy footwork, and then slipped a shot just inside the left post, beyond a diving Makenna Henry.
Jurado made it 2-0 Aztecs at 33:06 when she took a ball that was deflected by a Gaucho defender and one-timed it into the left corner.
UCSB cut the lead in half in the 39th minute when Mayra Almazan crossed ball from the left side into the box to Madison Beckley. Beckley back-heeled the ball to Sara Feder who tucked a shot into the right corner of the goal, beyond the reach of SDSU goalkeeper Rachel Boaz.
SDSU scored the only goal of the second half when Jurado took a Henry deflection, fed it to Victoria Barba who took a waist-high roundhouse kick and put into the back right portion of the net.
The Aztecs put on a dominant offensive performance piling-up 26 shots, including 11 go frame, to the Gauchos’ five, two of which were on target. Jurado finished with nine shots, five on goal. Henry, who left the game in the 83rd minute finished with seven saves. Haley Guerrero had her first career save in the closing minutes.
The Gauchos return home next weekend to open Big West Conference play. They will host UC Davis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 and then Pacific at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30. Both games will be at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
