Joshua Springs clipped Cate’s 8-man football team 44-12 on Friday night, but it wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the Lightning were able to pull away.
Joshua Springs led 14-6 at halftime and 20-12 at the end of the third quarter.
“We played hard but we didn’t get a ‘W’,” said Rams head coach Ben Soto. “We just didn’t get it done in the fourth quarter. There were things I know we could have done better and we’ll work on it.”
Kyle Mayfield rushed for both of Cate’s touchdowns.
The Rams (1-1) faces Faith Baptist in their next contest on September 22.
Joshua Springs (2-0), three-time defending CIF 8-man champions, play Kings Christian next Friday.
“We hung with them, we just couldn’t get the ball in in the second half,” Soto said.
