Bianca Castro collected 15 kills and eight blocks on Friday for SBCC in a tough 3-2 women’s volleyball loss to No. 8 Golden West at the L.A. Pierce Invitational.
The Vaqueros (2-6) couldn’t hold a 2-0 lead in a 22-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-9 setback. SBCC led 19-14 in the third set before the Rustlers (4-1) rallied to stay in the match.
Freshman Tessa Weller had 11 kills in her first full match since being sidelined by an injury. Jenna Anderson added six kills and Mackenzie Mexico made 19 digs.
“We passed much better and our hitting percentage went up,” said coach Ed Gover. “I keep talking about building ourselves into a team and that continued today.”
SBCC takes on Saddleback on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and if they win, the Vaqueros will play again at 4:30 p.m.
