Facing its second nationally ranked Pac-12 opponent of the season, the UCSB women’s volleyball team dropped a four-set match at No. 13 Oregon on Wednesday. Game scores for the match went 25-17, 25-20, 18-25, 25-16.
The Gauchos (5-3) last week fell to No. 3 UCLA.
Not many performances stood out for the Gauchos on a night where they were briskly defeated in a one-hour, 44-minute match in front of 1,084 at Oregon’s Matthew Knight Arena.
The most noteworthy stat line came from junior outside hitter Leah Sully, who recorded her third straight and sixth overall double-double by recording 11 kills and 12 digs, both team-highs.
Junior opposite Katey Thompson matched Sully’s 11 kills while tying freshman middle blocker Britton Taylor for the team lead in blocks with four.
The Gauchos serving and passing game got away from them a bit, as they registered season lows in both aces (2) and digs (39) while finishing with a season high in service errors (10).
The Ducks were led by Liz Brenner with 15 kills and five blocks (5). As a team, Oregon outhit the Gauchos .246 to .135 and outblocked them 10.0 to 7.0.
From Oregon, the Gauchos will travel straight to Albuquerque, N.M. to take part in the Sheraton Hotel/Comcast Lobo Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday. UCSB will take on the University of Portland on Friday, and finish up with Georgia Southern and host New Mexico on Saturday.
