Dos Pueblos Invitational Cross Country Results

The annual Dos Pueblos Cross Country Invitational attracted hundreds of high school runners to Shoreline Park on Friday afternoon for the age-group formatted event.

Downey’s Andres Velasco won the senior boys race in a time of 16:21 on the Shoreline Park course in Santa Barbara.

The big winners included Saugus and Long Beach Poly. Saugus won the freshmen, sophomore and senior girls races while Long Beach captured victory in the freshmen, sophomore and junior races.

Downey High School and Ventura High School bucked the trend, winning the senior boys race and the junior girls race, respectively.

Long Beach Poly’s Miguel Bautista, the DPI record holder in the freshmen and sophomore races, did it again by setting a new record in the junior competition. Bautista’s winning time of 15:46 shattered the previous record held by Dos Pueblos Sergey Sushchikh, set in 2009 at 16:15.

For the hosts, Dos Pueblos’ day was highlighted by a individual win in the girls sophomore race. Elaine McClure led the Chargers to a second-place finish by winning the 3-mile race in 19:28. DP’s top-ranked boys varsity team did not compete on Friday.

San Marcos’ Ryan Sorenson posted a third-place finish for the Royals in the junior boys race. Jewel Fisher’s third-place result helped the Royals’ junior girls to a runner-up finish to Ventura in team standings.

Cate’s Charlotte Monke was the top local finisher in the freshman girls race.
