Santa Barbara couldn’t pull out the close sets and dropped its Channel League girls volleyball opener at Ventura on Thursday.
The Dons started well, winning the first set 25-19, but they fell short in the next three, falling 27-25, 27-25, 25-23.
Sydney Riegert had nine kills to lead the Santa Barbara attack. Frankie Lewis added eight kills and Emma Moscari seven.
Santa Barbara is back on the court Friday, playing at the Dave Mohs Tournament in Orange County.
