Laura Hollander set a course record to lead the Cal Poly women’s cross country team to first place at the UCSB Lagoon Meet on Saturday.
The Mustangs edged out the host Gauchos 29-33. Cal Poly also won the men’s meet, 23-45.
Hollander covered the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 42.12 seconds. Gauchos Dani Moreno (17:37.92) and Christine Cooperstein (17:42.58) finished second and third, respectively. The Mustangs won by placing four other runners in the top 10.
Gaucho freshmen Maxine Goyette came in seventh in 18:15.78 and senior Cassie Brooker placed ninth in 18:24.11.
In the 8k men’s competition, Bhavik Kanzaria was UCSB’s top finisher, taking fifth in a time of 25:18.60. Baxter Frick finished seventh in 25:22.79 and freshman Andrew Farkas placed 10th in 25:35.63. Freshman Anthony Ortolan was 11th and junior Juan Paredes 12th.
