Freshman Jenna Anderson recorded 15 kills, 16 digs and three blocks Wednesday night as SBCC rallied for a 3-2 women’s volleyball victory over Canyons in Santa Clarita. The scores were 25-17, 22-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-11.
Bianca Castro had nine kills and five blocks and setter Ari Garner had a fine all-around match with eight digs, four kills, two aces and 45 assists. It was the third straight win for the 21st-ranked Vaqueros (5-6).
Katie Dolan added nine kills, Emily Banas had 16 digs and five kills and Tessa Weller contributed 12 digs. Mackenzie Mexico collected nine digs.
“There were a lot of rallies and we stayed consistent when we needed to,” said coach Ed Gover. “Ari did a great job of distributing the ball to all our hitters.”
The Vaqueros trailed 24-11 in the third set, then went on an 8-0 run to build momentum for the fourth-set win. Garner and Weller both served well in the deciding fifth set. Leading 10-9, SBCC scored three straight points to take control.
The Vaqueros open WSC North play on Friday at Ventura with the first serve at 7 p.m.
